This is Four Tet aka Kieran Hebden’s first full album release on his own in five years, and it sees him heading back to basics. Whereas with Steve Reid he’s been making some pretty complex music with jazz leanings, here he works with simple melodic loops, and the results are hypnotic. From the gentle vocal sample he works into ‘Angel Echoes’, the feeling is that he’s been on holiday to the Balearics, as this would work a treat in Ibiza. And so it proves throughout, with shimmering, hot weather textures and straightforward four to the floor beats. It’s one of his most accessible albums in a long time, and also one of his best.
