A mini album from Kieran Hebden that takes him closer than ever before to techno territory. ‘Ringer’ is made up of four warm-hearted, spring like tracks that are notable for their clever construction and use of many subtle elements. The title track makes the biggest impression, with its melodic pieces woven in together. Third track ‘Swimmer’ brings out a Balaeric haze, a steady beat muffled by a bright treble. Meanwhile ‘Ribbons’ confirms the deep, mellow theme, while ‘Wing Body Wing’ brings small flecks of percussion together, eventually beaten down by bigger sounds. More extremely good music from Hebden as he continues to develop – one of those artists whose every direction is worth watching.
