Garnica – Fool Again – Galaktika Records

The second artist album from Venezuela’s Rafael Garnica sees the producer play with a selection of sounds and influences that stretch right back to the eighties. But despite that ‘Fool Again’ never feels too retro, it’s much more refreshing than that. From the downtempo lush production feel of ‘Fear Test’ to its opposite 4/4 number the much tougher ‘Put Your Hands’ this album is never really about dull moments. In fact, you also get stunning cinema with ‘Interlude’ and the emotive autobiographical piano of ‘I Don’t Care About Winning, I Care About Playing’ just to extend the diversity. Vocals also make their presence felt such as on the jazzy percussion flavored ‘Oh Korea’ via Paulo Olarte, and on the feel good ‘Love Someone’.
