Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts’Twice Around The Sun’Circus Company

This is an eagerly awaited second album from the Montreal maverick, and doesn’t disappoint. It’s always good to have the boundaries of house and techno stretched, and this is a record that does just that with seemingly little effort. The grooves are stretched out, often touching eight minutes, which gives the listener/dancer plenty of time to get under the skin of the music. ‘Can’t Have Everything’ is one of the choice cuts, a piece of smoky house that Ashley Beedle would be more than happy to put his name to, while there are shades of Romanthony on the sultry ‘On The Lips’, a deep house track to treasure. Meanwhile the experimental side of Guillaume occasionally surfaces in small touches like the melody of ‘Autumn Leaves’, briefly floated in the background to ‘Intermede’. A consistently stimulating piece of work.
