The vocoder in Gum Drop’s ‘Live Lounge Skit’ gets it right – “to mix funky live playing with new technology, preferably on vintage kit.” They succeed handsomely, aided by the honeyed tones of singers Randolph Matthews, Jason Todd and Zara Edwards. Cool funk rubs shoulders with several lively rap tracks in an album whose approach is to keep things free and relatively easy, yet always looking to funk out in tracks like ‘Step By Step’. A lively and interesting record.
