Heathered Pearls – Body Complex – (Ghostly International)
DMC World Magazine
‘Body Complex’ is a softly shaded album for the early hours, born from Jakub Alexander’s love of the hours after a rave in his teenage years. As the album slowly drifts into view Alexander sets down some dreamy textures before kicking back for some deeper house shades, bringing in beats that are solid but far from intrusive. The music above them oscillates softly, not in any particular hurry but with enough energy to keep the interest ticking over. Tracks like ‘Interior Architecture Software’ also show a clear love of instrumental techno and the influence of Detroit, where the Polish-born producer grew up. ‘Abandoned Mall Utopia’ is perhaps a reflection of how the city is now but it retains an appealing warmth, subtly shifting in response to the vocals from Shigeto. This is music that works well for dreamy after hours encounters, but also reveals its energy levels when placed in the middle of a dancefloor. An ideal combination.
