Hieroglyphic Being – The Acid Documents – (Soul Jazz)
DMC World Magazine
Originally available in a limited edition of just 100 copies, Hieroglyphic Being’s debut album for Soul Jazz is now widely available, and has some terrific album artwork that completely reflects the content of the album. This is pretty cosmic stuff, the presence of Sun Ra never especially far away, but it is a document that reeks of the late 1980s in both sound and rhythm. The rolling ‘Fabian Society’ bears this out, as does the pounding beat and distant, psychedelic treble noises of ‘Dualism’. The ten tracks are hypnotic and bring with them a sense of ritual, the music successfully combining an experimental approach with the fundamental elements of Chicago house. With another album under the moniker of Africans due in January, Hieroglyphic Being – aka Jamal Moss – is reaching for the skies.
