For his third album, Ils turns to Eastern Europe, employing harmonies and melodies with a distinctly Slavic feel. It works handsomely, the haunting melodies bringing a quiet menace to tracks like ‘Ill-Logic’, where they join a broad, cinematic bass line. The textures used in ‘Storm From The East’ and the free spirit of ‘Razor’ work well, while ‘Precious’ takes a stance on the recent war in Iraq. Ils has gone to the next level in ‘Bohemia’, and that’s saying something given his past form!
