In what amounts to a mid-career retrospective for the weasly rapper, ‘Exodus’ boasts a pretty formidable line-up of chart toppers. No need for introductions to the still fabulous ‘Always On Time’, ‘Wonderful’ or ‘Livin’ It Up’, all three with a soulful edge, but a couple of the earlier ones like ‘It’s Murda’ or ‘Holla, Holla’ strike well too. You’ll know by now if you can stand the voice or not, and sometimes the tendency to overindulge gets in the way, but one way or the other it can’t be denied Ja Rule has a truly distinctive sound. And if you believe the booklet credits, the best is yet to come.
