The album title sums up this Jesse Rose long player perfectly, as it’s full of tricky beats – some of them clever and amusing, others harder to understand. In the latter camp belongs ‘Night At The Dogs’, a heavier house update of Mr Scruff’s ‘Get A Move On’, while a couple of other tracks twist the acidic numbers a bit too far for some tastes. More effective are tracks like the closing trio – the chopped up samples of ‘You’re Over My Head’ alternating with deeper beats, while ‘Touch My Horn’ and ‘Never Ending’ work their strongly funky stuff. A bit patchy but plenty of invention here – and certainly not dull.
