Karen Young – Hot Shot – (bbr records)

Karen Young has delivered more than one Disco classic although for a lot of people she will be best remembered for this album’s 1978 title track, ‘Hot Shot’. Which has been sampled by all and sundry over the years including Daft Punk and appears here both as the original along with the epic Jim Burgess 12” workout. Who also provides the remix of the rousing exuberance contained within, ‘Baby You Ain’t Nothing With Out me’. On a slower note ‘Where Is He’ showcases Young’s flamboyant vocal style perfectly and also typically the fiery percussion lines that accompanied the longer mixes of her tracks. Disco certainly, however a side step from the likes of Salsoul, and for all the information you will need check Christian John Wikane’s invaluable sleeve notes.
