Leo Abrahams has an enviable contact book. He has worked closely with Brian Eno, playing a big part in his ‘Small Craft On A Milk Sea’ album of 2010, but that is just the tip of the iceberg, for he has credits with Frightened Rabbit, Wild Beasts, David Holmes and Paolo Nutini, which gives you an idea of his reach. ‘Daylight’ reflects that musical openness, though there are very strong hints of Eno throughout – never a bad thing, of course! They make themselves known in ‘Halo Effect’, which has a nice fuzzy quality but gets peppered with guitar. This is an Abrahams hallmark, with some quirky side shifts that imply he has quite a short musical attention span – but the results are positive and, in the case of ‘From The Shadows’, joyous thanks to a guest vocal from Luke Smith. Eno and Karl Hyde join forces for ‘Chain’, which has a driving energy, while Leafcutter John adds sonic invention to three tracks. A very intriguing album that deserves greater prominence.
