It would be easy to be biased in favour of Luke Abbott, being a Norwich lad myself, but he makes it easy to praise this album, named after a particularly beautiful stretch of the North Norfolk coast. Abbott has an intriguing habit of applying his melodies in units of three, so when this is set against a straight beat operating in a traditional four to the floor sense, a strange kind of tension ensues. Clearly he has an ear for vivid instrumental colourings, and while tracks such as ‘Trans Forest Alignment’ draw more directly from the likes of Steve Reich, they always work their material with a mixture of logic and flair. ‘Holkham Drones’ is striking in this way too, though in each track Abbott shows himself more than capable of casting a spell with the small melodic pockets he has at his disposal. As you’d expect from a Border Community artist, Abbott is an electronic artist mixing it up a bit – and as a result is a name to watch for sure.
