Minus maniac Marc Houle digitally released three new tracks per week during August but sitting here steaming like a pair of radioactive cow-pats are two mind-stretching twelve-inches containing seven of them, further pushing out the electronic boat this label launched ten years ago. Using an arsenal of machines from early analogue onwards, Marc has entered new realms of sonic mischief, managing to blend tacky sci-fi soundtracks, avant minimalism and B-boy kneesups as naturally as breaking wind. ‘Buchla9’ sets off rising blips, computer game squeaks and masturbating robo-voles over hefty kick and bass overload. ‘Deathray At You’ is a berserk collision between raygun frenzy and unearthly drones before ‘Meatier Shower’ cheekily homages UR with electro-twitters, acid rain and Magda’s treated vocal. ‘Sands’ strips down to behemoth bass heave before more vocal trickery over the primitive beats of ‘Jouster’. An army of small animals creep off the flying saucer for the springy techno of ‘Flapping Around’ leaving ‘Ketchup And Bean’ to close these vinyl proceedings with chunky, bass-propelled floor action punctuated by hippos-in-the-bath bass action. Electronic whoopee of the highest order.
