Belgium tech-vet Marco can always be guaranteed to turn on the juice and hit a few peaks so his first studio album since 2004’s Rude Boy comes as a welcome dose of no-holds-barred roof-raising married with a healthy dose of exploration and homaging to classic electronic styles. Working with long-time studio partner Tom Hades, the album jolts from the off as the guitars of ‘Adult Entertainment’ usher in some mean acid funk drenched in strings and radioactive goat excrement. ‘Exorcism’ is pretty special with deep soulful melodies and rising layers in the classic techno style he does so well. While keeping abreast of current low-slung minimalism on ‘Blast’, ‘Rhythm Is My Life’ harks back to Phuture with its growling vocal and ‘Whistle’ even recalls early 90s NYC deep house with its Wayne Gardner chords and sublime flow. It starts winding down towards the end with the spooked ‘Childhood’ [complete with kid noises] and ‘Café Latte’ invoking the ghost of Bob James’ theme from Taxi. Many bases of the electronic spectrum are covered, few do it so well.
