METHOD MAN
4:21 – THE DAY AFTER
DEF JAM

Method Man’s first mission on this album is to make marijuana legal, a statement made clear in the title – 4/21 being the day after national weed smoking day. But there’s a lot more to this urgent record than just that, as he digs deep emotionally in the piano led ‘Is It Me’ and the scurrying strings of ‘Problem’. The producer list says it all – Eric Sermon, Scott Storch, RZA – and the sound is an earthy one that keeps close to the Wu-Tang style but gives Meth a natural base. Lauryn Hill brings her vocal talents to the excellent single ‘Say’, while a diversion to R&B territory reaps rewards in the Ginuwine collaboration ‘Let’s Ride’. A thought provoking and consistently good record.
