Miss Kittin
Batbox
Nobody’s Bizzness

Four years since I.Com, Miss Kittin finally unleashes her second album, completely independently on her own label. Some may be shocked by the fact that she appears to have gone goth! The ‘Kittin Is High’ single came as a bat-strewn picture disc and lyrics like ‘bat in a box/show me what you goth’ back this up. As such she could well now be perched squarely in the middle of the dancefloor of the Bat Cave club circa 1984 where very similar imagery and sentiments were soaked up by exotic creatures of the night in between burst of Grandmaster Flash. One of Kittin’s main strengths was her ability to stand out from the crowd and take risks. This she’s done again while maturing as a songwriter and singer. Tracks like ‘Grace’, ”Play Me A Tape’ and the title cut are melodic, mysterious, some boasting choruses, also an underlying sense of humour. ‘Solid As A Rockstar’ even takes a hiphop route, again with killer chorus, while ‘Lightmaker’ is an ethereal ballad again conjuring up the ghost of Nico. Kittin certainly is high, way up there above the hordes, following her own unique flight-path.
