Mood II Swing – Strictly Mood II Swing – (Strictly Rhythm)

Now here’s a well-deserved retrospective, with US housers Mood II Swing given a collection illustrating just why they have been such a quality act from the 1990s onwards. Their original productions still have it – ‘Do It Your Way’, ‘Slippery Track’ and ‘Ohh’ (both with John Ciafone on vocals), ‘Closer’ (with Carol Sylvan) and the smoky ‘All Night Long’ being just a few of the examples – while as a remix team they have if anything been even better. BT’s ‘Remember’ and Ultra Nate’s ‘Free’ are the obvious commercial belters here, but Sarah Washington’s ‘Everything’, Everything But The Girl’s ‘Wrong’ and Lucy Pearl’s ‘Don’t Mess With My Man’ all prove their class and consistency. In a lot of these productions the seeds for UK garage were sown – and listening to the 33 tracks collected on this generous compilation show just how influential and durable the pair have been. One of the best in the ‘Strictly’ series to date.
