Toronto’s Jared Simms and Voytek consolidate this year’s success with their label and electro-tinged techno Eps with a full album which effortlessly establishes an atmosphere all of their own. Tight percussion, emotive drones and haunted vocals are shot with a sense of mischief which elevates tracks like ‘While My Guitar Gently Creeps’ and ‘Mexican Sunset [In A Bad Way]’, while ‘Minutes From Madness’ introduces guitar and Reese-style bass-snake to evocative effect. Haunted house with minimal underpants, Joy Division vocals on ‘Wakinda Park’ and subterranean electro finally rearing on the closing ‘Robots Have Feelings’ all add up to a fantastic debut.
