Mark ‘Merka’ Ford takes a slight detour from the breaks he’s known for to team up with Jon Driver aka MC Esha for a densely fresh take on hiphop, which can always do with an experimental twist as old school pioneering becomes a distant memory. Mark’s Berserka album last year forged a multi-tiered sonic collage style which he’s now applied to sculpting lush, atmospherics backdrops for Esha’s cool rapping. It was trailered last year by the ‘Cheshire Cat’ single, an imaginative jazz-tinged outing which boded well, expectations consummated as the album progresses. The current single is ‘Minds I’, which ploughs a deeper furrow, Esha’s lyrical content maybe drawing from his daytime occupation studying forn a PHD in the Philosophy Of Mental Disorder. In other words, this stuff is deep on all counts but a refreshing bolt for hiphop.
