It’s been a while since we had a soulful house music album to rave about, but Nathan G’s new long player could be about to change all that. Released on the Chicago imprint Large Music, it does nonetheless have a lot of the west coast about it, with some sultry textures and nice, rounded bass lines. The songs are really well written, too, and are brought to life by vocal guests Alexander East, Cecilia Stalin and the wonderful Lisa Shaw, who helps ‘Together’ realise the peak time potential it so clearly has. Some tracks – ‘Wonder Vision’ for example – are higher tempo, disco-influenced numbers that work equally well, and Nathan G does really well to complement his uppers and downers throughout. In short, a house album that ticks all the right boxes, no matter how many times you play it.
