Nick Chacona has been working on his first long player for some time, and it shows – in a good way. Long periods of time spent working with the likes of Buzzin’ Fly, Bear Funk and Prins Thomas have reaped their rewards, with a classy set of instrumentals given extra clout by two fine vocal tracks, Kathy Diamond’s slow disco number ‘The Fear’ and Brothers Vibe’s dub flavoured ‘Wait’, reflecting Chacona’s love of reggae. The warm keyboard sounds of ‘Proving Ground’ are immediately appealing, while some of the other instrumental tracks reflect a love of early house from Chicago and Detroit. Well worth the wait.
