London’s No1 Station is the brainchild of man about town Sir Marcus Downbeat, he loves his music and he knows how to have a good time, believe me.’Boss Beat’ opens with a good dose of irresistible ska in the shape of ‘Airstrip One’, closely followed by the very authentic sounding ‘She’s So Sweet’, a warm and spot on slice of rocksteady. Other highlights include the DJ delights of MC Boss and the sugar laced vocals of Ms Moretti on ‘Best Friend’ and ‘Friday Night’. The title cut ‘Boss Beat’ is an organ led moonstomping floorfiller, and the closing ‘Alpha Skank’ along with ‘Reel Skank’ both feature the legendary Tan Tan on trumpet. I saw No1 Station do a gig at The Rhythm Factory the other night and they certainly know how to rock it, if you get a chance to catch them live, get your bouncing soles on and make sure you do.
