The second Ocote album on ESL, this is another extremely eclectic approach that reflects the Ocote duo’s musical heritage. ‘The Alchemist Manifesto’ also unites technology old and new, with the flute of ‘Gurpunder’ offering a soothing retreat, whereas the cinematic, string-laced funk of ‘Contra El Sol’ is well executed. Such variety means the album stands up well to repeated listening with its rich pallette of sounds, beats and nationalities. Very interesting.
