Prefuse73
Preparations
Warp

The prolific Guillermo Scott Herren has always been one to try out a new
sound or dozen, whether more obviously using hip hop in Prefuse 73 or sultry
Spanish nocturnes as part of Savath & Savalas. This new long player manages to bring both disciplines together, with warm beats and block chords forming the basis of ‘Beaten Thursdays’ or a white noise cymbal workout in ‘Smoking Red’. Herren’s effective use of ecstatic, mostly wordless vocals, good guests (School Of Seven Bells, John Stanier and Tobias Lilja are all here) imaginative samples and multicoloured hip hop beats brings a rich vein of creativity and interest to the record. One of his best, most vivid albums so far.
