Proxy – Music From The Eastblock Jungle Vol.1 – Turbo

For music that is high on adrenaline, Proxy is your man. This part one of two has been a long time in the making, but it’s been worth the wait as ‘Music from the Eastblock Jungles’ is pumped full of energy and invention. Proxy is clever in the way he calls on classic rave and hip hop to inform his beats, but along the way he introduces new and cutting sounds to tracks like ‘Raw’, with its barbed wire bass and pummelling drum track. ‘Revolution’ meanwhile is an inspired mix of those styles, rewarding those with big sound systems. The album harnesses something of the spirit of the Prodigy at their most inventive, pushing beats in to unusual corners and formations but keeping both eyes firmly fixed on the party. It’s that quality that comes through most in an album that keeps on giving.
