Sometimes great music disappears without trace for no obvious reason, leaving many to scratch their heads in bewilderment, and mutter about ‘lady luck…’. Reel People originally released their ‘Second Guess’ long-player in 2003, and even though received plaudits and plenty of radio and club play, it came and went without much fuss. Having found a new label home, and honed their sound with a long series of live dates, they’ve wisely decided the time is right to make the album available again, complete with exclusive re-works and three new songs (including a terrific version of Thelma Houston’s “You Used To Hold Me So Tight”). Their style is classic disco-boogie re-imagined for modern house music lovers – hip-shaking funk that you won’t want to stop – don’t miss this if you passed on it the first time. Essential
