Rod Carrillo & Ronnie Sumrall
Rhythm
Carrillo

After a string of acclaimed US single releases on his own self-named imprint, Rod Carrillo teams up with LA-based vocalist Ronnie Sumrall for a top draw collection of smooth dance cuts, and edgy electro offerings built on a rocky foundation. Largely structured around burbling basslines complimented by simple-yet-effective vocal hooks, the formula can be heard on a handful of standouts, most notably the funky feel-good title track; Shefali’s gusty vocals feature on the upcoming rock-tinged single, ‘Breakin’ Out’, while Bodega Charlie adds the toplines to the chunky ‘Oh Yeah’. The recent single ‘Moonshine Rising’ (remixed by Albert Castillo) and ‘Long Time’ (Peter Brown mix) add more weight to the dozen strong collection that gradually sees the tempo rise from the languid funkster ‘It’s Not Like Me’ to the climatic ‘Give It’, the album’s toughest club thumper. ‘Rhythm’ is a potent cocktail of incisive sensuality that perfectly fuses dance-inflected rock beats, with waves of vivid vocal emotion to terrific effect.
