ROEDELIUS
WORKS 1968-2005
GRONLAND

You’d need the space of a telephone directory to summarize the epic life of Hans Joachim Roedelius.  But – for the purpose of this review – the only thing you really need to know is that Roedelius is a modern day musical genius. Revered for the influence he brought to the formative krautrock scene – from Kraftwerk, Can and Kluster (which he formed), and collaborations with artists like Brian Eno – his all-encompassing soundscapes can easily be felt in techno, house and modern electronic music across the board.  Even though the man has a huge discography spanning over four decades, mainstream recognition has proved wanting, which makes this double CD collection all the more exciting, showing exactly how varied his work and collaborations are.   It hardly needs saying that much of the work featured is timeless, yet it’s also compulsively listenable and hugely enjoyable with it.
