No complications here – put simply, this is feel good funk for the summer. Don’t let the name influence you either, as the Voodoo Trombone Quartet aren’t quite as weird or random as they sound. They concentrate on getting you into the middle of the floor with a mix of funk, dub and ska that’s piled high with brassy attitude. Sometimes they’re even reminiscent of an instrumental Alabama 3, with loping grooves and fulsome bass lines, while the vibe is always a good one, one you’d throw the doors and windows open for. It might not be massively original, but there’s something about the Quartet you can’t ignore, something that presses the right buttons to force a smile in even the biggest rain storm. And let’s face it, with our weather that could come in very useful!
