Scntst – Puffer – (Boysnoize Records)

Boysnoize are on to a winner here, make no mistake, as Bryan Müller – still only 21 – drops his second album under the SCNTST moniker. Immediately the nice, airy textures that wash over the headphones are soothing and create a restful atmosphere, setting us up for the really lovely soothing beat dropped by ‘Life Of Ares’. It isn’t all so relaxing though, for Müller has the talent another young producer before him has had, the restless Aphex Twin-isms often buzzing about over the warm washes of sound. There are also signs Müller could be a cinematic producer in the making, especially in a track such as ‘Gletscherspalte’, where the sparkling textures have a wonderfully creepy string line to go with them – so you can get subtly freaked out by tracks like this, or dive in to the warm sound baths offered by indulgences such as ‘UV Houzz’. A very fine second album from the Bavarian producer, whose name you should bookmark if you haven’t already.
