Sharon Jones & The Dap-kings released their debut album ‘Naturally’ back in 2005. It was recorded in their own all analogue studio, and soon after Kanye West, Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen amongst many others, came knocking on The Dap-Kings door, making the Daptone sound, the soul sound of now. The opening title cut of ‘100 Days, 100 Nights’ gets us off to a gritty proper R’n’B start, as Sharon Jones gives it up from the gut, over classic rhythms and finger clicking doo wop backing. Other highlights include the doggone funk and sassyness of ‘Nobody’s Baby’, the Tamla Motown vibes of ‘Tell Me’, The Atlantic feel of the horns on ‘When The Other Foot Drops, Uncle’, and the Northern shuffle’n’slide that is ‘Keep On Looking’. You can bet your bottom dollar, that Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings are gonna be in the running for a few awards.
