As the title intimates, Illogical Directions intends to surprise your expectations with its casual play on moods, sounds and styles. This third album from Shinedoe is, to my mind, her most distinctive to date with first rate musicianship accompanying creatively rich arrangements that aim for the dancefloor with plenty of harder rhythms, while also satisfying mind and soul on tracks like the joyous, Not So Far as well as the brooding ambience of opener ‘Release Yourself’. From the sheer Acid bliss contained in ‘God’s Love’ to the Detroit master class of ‘Circle of Life’ featuring an impassioned vocal from Miss Bunty, plus the sleazy twisted energy of ‘Discourse my new romance’ this album is undoubtedly set to define expectations.
