Silvetti – Spring Rain – Big Break Records/ Salsoul Records

Silvetti’s title track, released way back in 1977, is possibly one of the most sublime pieces of dance instrumentation you will hear from the period. And that certainly applies for fans of Disco who side-step the genres more obvious sounds with its Latin-esque summertime flair, soaring strings and uplifting piano/ horns motif which pretty much stamps ‘Spring Rain’ with the word classic. That and the Tom Moulton as producer credit of course. However, sad to say as with various albums of the period it’s not all quite so good, depending on your taste. ‘Primitive Man’ continues the party with funky guitar led grooves, while the dip in tempo and sassy vocals of ‘A Smile At Dawn’ speak for themselves. This timely re-release as part of BBR’s superlative series also features in amongst the various Love Unlimited Orchestra styled arrangements the also rousing ‘Contigo’, plus plenty of stunning bits of music for you to sample along the way. Viva Disco.
