Zach Hunsaker has been knocking at the door for a while now, with some good 12” releases that include ‘I Want Blood’ and ‘The Music’. Both are central to the success of ‘Slow It Down’, which looks to do just that, bringing back in the process some memories of quality acts from Glasgow Underground’s past like the Idjut Boys. What works really well here is Hunsaker’s meaty beats, supporting the title track and a number of other very funky but pretty subtle tracks. Just occasionally worry sets in as ‘Look No Further’ and ‘I’m Gonna Beg You’ take their influences a bit too literally, but Hunsaker is careful to keep the right side of cool at pretty much all times. It’s a happy addition to a long line of quality Glasgow Underground releases – so good to report that the label is back in peak condition once again!
