Whilst best know for his commercially minded party anthems ‘Happy People’, ‘So High’ and most recently ‘Everything Is Beautiful’ – the latter Essential New Tune forthcoming via Data – there’s so much more to LA-resident Dennis White then feel-good jams. One listen to ‘Love Song Surprise’ and you’ll hear his varied tapestry of influences – from Bowie on ‘I Feel Love’ to Prince on gorgeously sexy beat ballad ‘Life Carries On’. Chilled relief is always close at hand: ‘Don’t Give Up’ rides a melody that wouldn’t have sounded out of place on a modern day Betty Blue soundtrack. The cinematic theme is continued on Satellite’ that oozes of Moroder and Oakey in their Electric Dreams glory (check the clever video on YouTube that parodies a handful of classic sci-fi movies). And to keep his fan-base happy the inclusion of acoustic and chillout versions of ‘So High’ and ‘Happy People’ does no harm either. Static Revenger’s music exudes a rare blend of originality, sultriness and carefree innocence that’s all too missing in today’s over-produced and mass-marketed scene, and for that we give kudos.
