Teebs is the LA-based producer Mtendere Mandowa, but you could be forgiven for thinking there is something quite English about his work – all this in spite of his choice of the Spanish word ‘estar’ (‘to be’) as the title for his new album. As it turns out, the cover is a very good guide to what you can expect from the music on this album – hazy, slightly foggy headed electronica that shimmers in the sun and is rather beautiful. The starry eyed ‘Holiday’, with its loping beat, is beautifully done, as is the blissful ‘SOTM’, which also casts a warm spell. If anything, the finished product is a little too short – but that’s a reflection on the ‘no filler’ approach Mandowa has taken on this album. You’ll just have to listen to it again!
