Bear Funk is shaping into a label whose every release needs to be monitored and this, their third long player, brings forward the space disco duo of The Diaphanoids. Mind you, it would be wrong to pin down Andrea Bellentani and Simon Maccari to just one genre, as they show their flexibility through the mostly instrumental ‘Astral Weekend’, whether it’s in the extended synth wig-out of ‘Oops! Wrong Planet!’, the cosmic sounds of ‘Weightlessmotionless’ or the groove of ‘Secretly Mercurian’. And that’s just the first three tracks – through the rest of the album, though house remains the main point of reference, we have some nice references to rock, film soundtracks and funk, all shot through with lovely washes of analogue sound.
