THE RUSSIAN FUTURISTS
ME MYSELF AND RYE
MEMPHIS INDUSTRIES

I still find it hard to believe that The Russian Futurists is one man band Matthew Adam Hart, the sound he creates on the well crafted songs he writes is unbelievable, think The Flamming Lips meet The Beach Boys in The Human League’s studio with Phil Spector & Brian Wilson at the controls. ‘Me Myself And Rye’ is an introduction to The Russian Futurists, in that it’s a collection of the finest moments from his first three albums. Tracks include the bombastic current single ‘Paul Simon’, bursting with energy as go go dancers leap around in starched trouser suits. ‘Our Pen’s Out Of Ink’ surfs the silicone waves, ‘Precious Metals’ has got a certain daisy age hip hop feel, and ‘Let’s Get Ready To Rumble’ wouldn’t sound out of place in a Mercury Rev set. There’s even a half descent Christmas song here in ‘It’s Not Really Cold When It Snows’. All in all along with The Go! Team and The Pipettes, The Russian Futurists are another jewel in the sparkling but slightly scratched Memphis Industries crown.
