Push Me Pull You
Process

Toob are Richard Thair of Red Snapper, The Aloof and Cool’N’Deadly fame, alongside the very talented Jake One, who handles vocals and electrickery with his own certain style. ‘Push Me Pull You’ is their second album and it’s quite a leap forward taking in elements of post punk, classic techno, electronica and dub, all shot through with a large dose of funk and given an exciting new twist. ‘Push Me Pull You’ opens with ‘Treetop Frequency’ which leads you into a false sense of what’s in store, coming on like Lemon Jelly, before developing a groove that would get any amount of stoners up and on their feet. Closely followed by ‘Skinbox’  giving Talking Heads a run for their money and ‘Clipto’ which has got DFA spy film written all over it.  Other highlights include ‘Open The Gates’ a peaktime floorfiller that builds in layers of intricate percussion and hooky synth riffs, creating a carnival for malfunctioning robots. The breakbeat driven ‘Pirate Teeth’ which features Bomb The Bass main man Tim Simenon, and the irresistible unsettling futuristic disco of ‘Dervish Angel’. Toob are on to a winner with ‘Push Me Pull You’, creating club music that’s got bite and an edge.
