Firmly adhering to the if-it-ain’t-broke-don’t-fix-it adage that our grandparents used as a mantra, so Russell Small and James Wiltshire deliver album number two, and as with what’s gone before, it features a dozen or so of their best remixes from the past 18months. So for your bucks you get their restylings of pop hits for Beyoncé (‘Ring The Alarm’), Kelly Rowland (‘Work’) and their production of ‘The One’ for Kylie, along with mixes of Solange, Moby, Outsiders and Gusto’s ‘Disco Revenge’. But best of all is their knob twiddling on some very tasty exclusive remixes including Marvin Gaye’s ‘I Heard It Through The Grapevine’ (kudos to them for transforming a ’60s Motown standard into a contemporary clubbing essential). Ditto their mixes of the Eurythmics’ ‘Here Comes The Rain’ and ‘Blue Monday’ for New Order; there are even a few tasty mash-ups of the likes of Calvin Harris with Ultra Nate, Deadmau5 with Coldcut and Red Carpet with Kings Of Tomorrow. On the strength of this one I’m already looking forward to ‘Shakedown 3’.
