Union Jack
Pylon Pigs
Platipus

You’ll doubtless remember Union Jack from the days of classics like ‘Two Full Moons And A Trout’ and ‘Cactus’ – but ‘Pylon Pigs’ confirms that they are still in rude health, making trance music that doesn’t necessarily conform to the rules. The strangely effective ‘Triclops’ is testament to this, a track written in three time rather than four, but one that still makes sense on the dancefloor. Meanwhile ‘Submerge’ dispenses with beats entirely, concentrating on atmospherics instead. The pair are at their most thrilling when driving forward with a firm beat behind them though, and that’s what they do for much of this high quality album. Even now, trance music can make itself known in original ways.
