Various Artists – Air Texture Volume III Mixed by Deadbeat & DJ Olive (Air Texture)
The Air Texture series is now a familiar format, but in a good way – the first two were all about music that provides an outlet, good for the inner ear and the soul. The third follows a similar pattern but with some imaginative track choices from Deadbeat and DJ Olive it offers a good deal of variety. The Deadbeat mix thinks about introducing beats for a while and does so eventually, keeping a faint pulse running through tracks like Pole’s ‘WipfelDub’ and Jacopo Carreras’s intriguing ‘Violinic Drumming’ , while Loops Of Your Heart offer buzzy ambience with ‘Like A Wolf’.
DJ Olive finds an eerie glow in his opening track, Phil Niblock’s ‘Bells & Timps’, and passes through the sonic delights of Jim O’Rourke’s ‘Low Bow’ and Fennesz’s ‘Vallado’ on his way to the wonderful and expansive ‘Petrified Wood’ of Evynid Kang and Raz Mesinai’s ‘Go Figure Skating’, which is as cold as its title implies. This is another excellent contribution to a series whose unique ambience is proving to be very collectible.
