Mexico’s BPM festival runs from 7-14 January this year, and Art Department – Kenny Glasgow and Jonny White – have been invited to bring together the first compilation in its honour. The first thing that comes across immediately is the quality of their mixing, and as the duo establish a deep, dark groove early on they are bolstered by solid choices such as Oskar Offerman’s two offerings ‘You Said Party, I Said Maybe’ and ‘What Have We Become’, Tenwalls’ ‘Requiem’ and the incredibly satisfying, booming bassline of Deetron’s ‘Character’. Later on we are treated to a high quality remix of VCMG’s ‘Single Blip’ from Mathew Johnson, as well as Marcus Worgull & Peter Pardeike’s beautifully flighted ‘Lenoix’. The BPM festival is looking to release a lot more of this sort of thing over the next couple of years – and they’re off to a cracking start here!
