Compost have been doing a number of these very collectible download-only compilations, covering specific parts of their repertoire. As you might expect the experimental selection explores the darker corners of their collection, but offers a lot of variety as it does so. One of the standout tracks here is Ian Simmonds’ remix of Beanfield’s ‘Catalpa’, which carries a good bit of percussive weight, while Ben Mono’s ‘Midnight Sun’ has a welcome dash of attitude in the vocals from Jason Todd. It won’t surprise you to learn that Funkstörung’s ‘Funkstille’ is, indeed, a good bit of cool, laid back funk, while elsewhere the double from Jean-Paul Bondy (‘Delia’s Temptation’ and ‘L.A. Is Burning’) and the Computerjockeys remix of Ennio Morricone’s ‘Un Uomo Nello Spazio’ work their subtle magic. Definitely worth exploring for some new tunes.
