FRED DEAKIN PRESENTS THE TRIP TYCH
FAMILY RECORDINGS

What we’ve got here is another episode in ‘The Trip’ series, and this one is Family Recordings most ambitious outing to date. Fred Deakin is one half of Lemon Jelly, so you already know that this mix is gonna have a sense of humour, as well as a lot of good grooves and a few spanners in the works.
There’s 90 tracks here, all lovingly and mischievously selected & put together over 3 CD’s. ‘Fred Deakin Presents The Triptych’ opens with Badmarsh & Shri’s ‘Appa’, which sets you up nicely as you float off into an Indian sunset. But don’t get fooled into thinking this is a chill out album, in fact it’s far from it, as Fred digs into a wide variety of crates.
Highlights include dirty electro disco from Sharon Phillips with ‘Want 2 Need 2’. Two rather odd covers, the first being Billy Swan of ‘I Can Help’
fame, doing Elvis Presley’s ‘Don’t Be Cruel’, closely followed by Siouxsie & The Banshees having a go at Ben E. King’s ‘Supernatural Thing’. I’m glad to see The Toes are here, with their anthem ‘Chrome Radio Rocks’. And last but definitely not least, Peak’s rendition of the theme from ‘Get Carter’ is well worth a mention. ‘Fred Deakin Presents The Trip Tych’ gives you plenty to go with your sugar cubes.
