Firstly, guest drummer on this cool excursion from Oslo-based musical
collective NIC is Ted Parsons [Prong, Swans], who was in a small French
village last month recording with local industrial outfit Treponem Pel
alongside Killing Joke-Ministry bassist Paul Raven. After a night on the
town, Ted found Paul dead in his chair the next morning after he’d suffered
a heart attack. It’s come as a great shock to the industrial community so
our thoughts go out to Paul’s friends and family. Meanwhile, the album
features a guitarist who many thought had gone years ago: Keith Levene, who
leant his liquid sonic barrages to the early Clash and Public Image before
vanishing into an opiated haze. Now he’s back, in much subtler mode, adding
spacey embellishments to the group’s hallucinogenic funk. It’s predominantly
mellow and but deceptively multi-tiered with every sound counting towards a
vibrant tapestry on memorable songs like ‘Beast Of Eden’, ‘Connectivity’ and
the epic ‘E-pluss’ which sometimes seem to be exploding with creativity in
slow motion.
