Second in Soma’s new series which invites cutting edge producers to display either influences or faves. Ewan Pearson’s maiden voyage was a belter and now Swiss/Chilean producer Lucien nicolet comes in, having already impressed on labels like Perlon, Klang, Peacefrog and his own Cadenza. Most admirably, he has mixed this riveting set live using vinyl. These days a bit of a rarity. For nearly 120 minutes, Luciano weaves and coaxes current tackle from names including John Thomas, Matt John, Adam Beyer, Ricardo Villabos and J. Dahlback’s Huggotron. Liquid, deep, funky, minimal and propulsive. Other highlights include the skittering snare-fest of Donnacha Costello’s ‘OK, That’s Great, Start Over’, low-slung acid of Tadeo’s Bateria Iup!’ and his own collaboration with Thomas Melchoir – the sermon-splattered ‘Father’. All told, a fantastic journey.
