Phonetic deliver their contribution to summer listening with this double hitter which as the name suggests has selections for both day and night. The former is smoothly mixed together by Leigh Devlin which despite its ‘pool and sunset’ tag isn’t quite as relaxing as you might expect but an emotive selection of downtempo rhythms with lots of suitably atmospheric twists. Music comes from Elevator Suite, Laurels & Hardlies and Minus Blue’s intense ‘Be As One’ who also tastefully cover The Beloved’s Sweet Harmony. Not surprisingly then the second CD moves up a couple gears as Rob Roar opens with the excellent ‘Home’ and works his way through some deliciously twisted grooves such as Max Linen’s Flashback while not forgetting some hot vocals and electronic madness along the way.
