The polar opposite of the sounds typified by the likes of DMZ and Skream right now, Kid Dea opts for layers wrapped in layers, super tough, beat-ridden and dense sounds that shuffle purposely between dubstep and grime. There’s a lot going on, so much so it should be a brutal wall of sound, yet it all hangs with a strange sparseness that makes it addictive as hell – it’s how John Carpenter might have sound if he’d based his films in South London instead of LA. No info on who Kid Dea might be but this six-track white label is an amazing calling card.
